Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery

Our Purpose

Organization Purpose

The Hilltop Historical Society was organized in 1986 to preserve and promote the history, tradition and culture of the Hilltop Area. We are members of the Ohio Preservation Council, The Ohio Association of Historical Societies and Museums (OAHSM), The Ohio Historical Society and the Civil War Preservation Trust.  Projects supported in the past include the Camp Chase Civil War Reenactment and Living History Reenactment: preserving the Central Ohio Psychiatric Hospital Artifacts, Walking Tour to Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery as part of the Historic Hilltop Bean Dinner, The Olympic Torch Relays – 1995 and 2002 and the Jesse Owens Memorial Marker. In 1997 the HHS worked with the Franklinton Historical Society to clear the property and re-dedicate the Centennial Stone located on the old Sullivant Property (State Hospital Property). The HHS has also written grants for and received 2 Longaberger Initiative Historic Markers to commemorate historical sites; the first was installed at the entrance to Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery on Sullivant Avenue and the second was installed in the National Road Plaza between the old and new Fire Stations 17.

Each year we conduct the Annual Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery Memorial Service on the 2nd Sunday in June at 3 pm.

The Board of Trustees Meetings are held the first Monday of the month at Crossroads United Methodist Curch at 1100

S. Hague Avenue, Columbus, OH 43204 at 7 pm. Anyone is welcome to attend the trustees meetings.  Two general meetings are held each year during the spring and fall when special programs are presented.
